Millipore Corporation, leading provider of technologies, tools and services for the global life science industry, has introduced the LC-Pak point-of-use polisher, which provides fresh ultra pure water with very low traces of organics using analytical techniques such as UPLC, LC-MS or LC-MS/MS. The product is being made available in the country through Millipore India, which is participating at the Analytica Anacon 2009 .Although industry standard Milli-Q water has long been a satisfactory solution for these advanced techniques, recent advances have increased the sensitivity of organic and biochemical molecule detection. As a result, chromatographers increasingly need higher quality ultra pure water for use in mobile phase, buffers, blanks and standards, as well as for sample dilution, glassware rinsing, and extraction. The unique LC-Pak cartridge provides ultra pure water with an extremely low level of organics at a fraction of the cost of commercially available bottled water for chromatography.

The LC-Pak cartridge contains tightly packed C18 reverse phase silica that binds organic molecules through hydrophobic interactions. It is easily connected to the outlet of a Milli-Q water dispenser (Q-POD) or any Millipore Type I Water Purification System (Milli-Q, Direct-Q, Synergy or Simplicity system). The cartridge produces at least 500 L of ultra pure water suitable for trace organics analysis when fed with ultra pure water with a TOC level below 5 ppb.

"To ensure the water quality meets the most demanding requirements, we have put the LC-Pak cartridge through an extensive validation process," said Millipore Lab Water Group Product Manager, Jean-François Pilette.

Freshly produced ultra puree water from a Milli-Q system fitted with an LC-Pak cartridge was compared with several types of commercial bottled water for LC-MS. Results showed that water produced with the Milli-Q /LC-Pak combination matched or exceeded the quality of commercially-available water, he added.

The LC-Pak cartridge is the latest addition to Millipore's suite of application-specific point-of-use (POU) polishers. Other POU filters include: VOC-Pak cartridges for removal of volatile organics from ultra pure water. EDS-Pak point-of-use polishers for production of endocrine disrupter-free water. BioPak ultra-filtration cartridges for preparation of pyrogen- and nuclease-free ultra pure water for use in cell culture, biochemistry, or molecular biology applications. Millipak filters for removal of particulates and bacteria in ultra pure water for analytical applications (spectrophotometry, spectroscopy and chromatography).

All of these POU filters can be used as a final purification step with the Milli-Q Integral, Milli-Q Advantage, Direct-Q, Synergy and Simplicity systems.
